Model United Nations also known as MUN, is an educational simulation and academic competition in which students learn about current affairs, diplomacy and international relations. Students get the chance to step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN and debate on the agenda that is selected by the organizations. Before starting their role as an ambassador; students get the opportunity to do research on the agenda. In MUN, students acting as “delegates” prepare a position paper, followed by plot strategy and draft resolution and go for negotiations with the fellow delegates. All the delegates obey the rules of procedure which are looked after by the Chair, Co-Chair and Director during the committee session simplifying the version of original United Nations conferences. The UN conferences hold an enormous potential in shaping up the youth to be more aware about the current issues around the world. It leads to the opportunity to negotiate with the leaders of tomorrow and getting to know more people.

Being inspired with all these, a delegation from North South University representing Bangladesh attended the New York Global Young Leaders Summit International Model United Nations (NY-GYLS Int’l MUN). The summit ‘NY-GYLS Int’l MUN’, which took place from March 26 to March 29, 2013, was the first and unique youth summit in US where students from all five continents gathered and offered a higher-level atrium of confrontation and negotiation with culturally-diverse leaders. Highly deserving, the Bangladeshi students have won the ‘Best Delegation Award’ among all the extraordinary candidates from all over the world. This has given a global recognition to the North South University and hence the North South University Model United Nations Club (NSU MUNC) was formed.

Founded on June 19, 2013, the biggest club aims to provide a forum for developing skills such as research writing, public speaking, problem solving, consensus building, conflict resolution and negotiation through Model UN Conferences. The sole objective of this club is to create, not leaders but global leaders. Moreover, NSU MUNC will also help students to develop patriotism, flourish international relationships and public relations. Students are being motivated towards social activities and actively taking part in the welfare of society through NSU MUNC. The club also provides the students with an extremely valuable communicable asset which is favored by top graduate colleges throughout the globe. Furthermore, over the year and more, the club has successfully organized events celebrating International Youth Day’14, United Nations Day and also student exchange programs. One of the most successful events by the club is the Intra NSU Model UN conference 2014. Having the theme of UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the conference consisted of four committees: The General Assembly Third Committee (GA3), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and around 170 students from all departments of the university participated in the day-long workshop that led to the two-day conference.

At the end of everything, we all want to be the best and so as NSU MUNC, which aims to be the number one club of the North South University emerging leaders from the youth of Bangladesh and creating greater impact not only in Bangladesh but also in global political stages.
